Education in basic economic disciplines consists of two quarters of microeconomics and econometrics and a quarter of macroeconomics. Training in core business disciplines (accounting, finance, management, marketing, operations, strategy) teaches students how to perform various functions in business. Elective courses in both areas deepen students` skills at the end of basic education. The Major in Economics (BA) creates the basic tools economists have on how individuals, companies, organizations, and governments make decisions. Core courses in microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics teach students how economies work and how to extract information from data; Year-round sequences in microeconomics and econometrics provide advanced technical training. The wide range of elective courses in the Economics major applies the tools to topics in finance, trade, labor markets, energy and environment, taxation, government, inequality and international development, and more. First-year applicants who complete California Community College courses should note: Neither the IGETC certification nor the partial IGETC degree can apply to meet UC San Diego College`s general training requirements for incoming first-year students. All courses taken on a UC campus during a regular or summer session (with the exception of the UC extension) are transferable. UC Extension courses with numbers 1 to 199 are also transferable. Completion of the 7-course template is not required for applicants from other UC sites.
UC San Diego accepts transfer courses from accredited post-secondary institutions with content similar to that offered in the UC system. Stay up to date on UC San Diego transfer-specific events and support, including events at the Triton Transfer Hub! To avoid duplication, take all courses in an order before transfer (p.B. Chemistry 1A-1B). To be eligible for admission to the transfer, you must complete at least 60 UC transferable semester units (90 trimesters) before the end of the spring semester before fall admission. Our Math Econ Major (BS) is a program for students pursuing a degree in Economics. It follows the same basic sequence of the major in economics, and then delves deeper into the underlying mathematical foundations of microeconomics and econometrics. Compared to the major in economics, it takes more (you guessed it..) Mathematics, mainly calculus. We have made important arrangements with many California community colleges to prepare for articulation. Visit the ASSIST website to learn how your courses can be transferred to UC San Diego. For units above the maximum, credits are awarded for appropriate courses and can be used to meet requirements: UC San Diego requires a competitive cumulative GPA (minimum 3.0) in UC transferable courses. Students admitted to UC San Diego often have GPAs that exceed the minimum. A maximum of 4 semester units (6 trimesters) of physical education can be applied to the transfer requirement of 60 units.
A maximum of 8 semester units (12 trimesters) of English as a Second Language (ESL) can be applied to the 60-unit requirement for transfer. California Community College courses must be included in your community college`s transferable course agreement. Some restrictions apply. Our Major in Management Sciences (BS) is a unique program for students interested in business analysis. It provides the basic economic toolbox applied to management challenges in the private and public sectors. In terms of goals, it most closely resembles a major in business administration, but what sets it apart is the emphasis we place on mathematical and quantitative tools. Unlike the major in economics, it requires finance, operations research, and decision-making in uncertainty, but less macroeconomics.
Students planning a transfer must complete the minimum preparation course to be considered for admission to the major. Applicants for the following departments will be selected for the number of preparatory courses completed, the grades obtained in this course and the cumulative average. All major screening preparation courses should be completed with a grade of C (2.0) or better. The ranges shown reflect the middle of 50% of our transfer students admitted in the fall of 2020. Of this pool of transfer students, 25% also had a cumulative grade point average above the range shown here, and 25% below. A transfer candidate was enrolled in a regular session at a college or university after high school, with the exception of summer sessions. UC San Diego enrolls transfer students at the junior level. 32% of our undergraduate class are transfer students: creative freethinkers and mavericks from around the world who come together on our campus to break the boundaries of the “ordinary.” If you meet the requirements of Lower General Education (GE) before you change, you`ll benefit from greater flexibility in course selection once you enroll at UC San Diego and shorten your time until graduation.
Each of UC San Diego`s six colleges has its own GE requirements, so keep that in mind when choosing your community college courses.
